Full Sail University has roughly 20,000 daily users of our proprietary online learning management system, LMSv5. This systems allows faculty to build courses and create various assignment types. Both online and exclusively campus students use LMSv5 to complete coursework. Administrator roles are also present for the purposes of scheduling enrollments and auditing user activity.
I joined the QA team five months prior to the launch of LMSv5. At that time, the product had been in development for two years, but I was able to jump right in and begin testing. I worked with one other tester who trained me on all of our processes, and I quickly became an asset. Shortly after the release of LMSv5, I was tasked as the sole tester on the project. We’ve had several major feature updates since the initial release, and recently transitioned from using in house servers to Amazon Web Services. I’ve assisted with load testing using Web Performance and Apache JMeter.
My day to day involves testing updates against technical specifications and working closely with the product analysts in the case of specification discrepancies. I attend weekly product design meetings with the product team and developers to discuss project progress. Our specifications are documented in Confluence, and we use Jira to assign bugs and track progress on our product board.
Due to the complex, interactive nature of the LMSv5, it isn’t practical to fully automate testing, but I have been able to use Katalon Recorder and Katalon Studio to assist with some major aspects of regression testing for both faculty and student users.
